Aleph is the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet and many others, giving rise to the greek letter alpha. In mathematics, aleph numbers represent the cardinality of infinite sets, like the number of elements of the set of all natural numbers, which is called aleph zero.

“The Aleph” is a short story by the Argentine writer and poet Jorge Luis Borges first published in September 1945.
